Apple Pay Expanded to Canada’s Biggest Banks

Starting today, Apple Pay has expanded to two major Canadian banks, including RBC and CIBC. In addition, Apple’s mobile payment service is support by TD Canada Trust, Scotiabank, and BMO.

This expansion brings support for Visa, MasterCard, and Interac, covering most major debit and credit cards in Canada. Just like with any other market, Canadian users can add supported cards by scanning them, or by entering them manually. This option could be found in the Wallet app, by tapping on the “Add Credit or Debit Card”.

Furthermore, Apple Pay can be used where contactless payments are already implemented. This includes Apple Stores, Canadian Tire, Coles, Chapters, Indigo, London Drugs, Mark’s, McDonald’s, On The Go, Petro-Canada, Pizza Hut, and many other retailers nationwide.

It is expected that in the next few weeks Apple support will come to Air Canada, Domino’s, Pizza Pizza, Zulily, and the TTC transit system in Toronto.

In order to use Apple Pay, you need to have one of the following iPhone models: iPhone 6s/6s Plus, iPhone 6/6 Plus, and iPhone SE. In addition to the Apple Watch when paired with an iPhone 5 or later, for in-store purchases, the iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4, and iPad mini 3 support in-app purchases only.
