Review: SwitchEasy Monsters for iPhone 6s/6s Plus

I never liked using a protective case with my iPhone, simply because I am a huge fan of Appleā€™s industrial design. Interestingly enough, even though I received a number of cases during the past couple of years, only a few of those actually persuaded me to continue using them. I finally started taking these products for serious once my iPhone 6 slipped from my hand which resulted in numerous damages. I am sure there are a lot of you who faced the same destiny and are reading this article in search for a new protective case.

In this article, we will be taking a look at a product made by SwitchEasy. This company is known for making simple, minimalistic cases that keep your phone protected without actually covering it from all sides and hiding its body. We have received the SwitchEasy Monsters Case for a review, which is actually the second generation of funky-looking protective cases that were designed for the iPhone 5. Since these are not compatible with the newest iPhone generation, the company decided to take their already popular design and apply it to the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. As expected, you can use them with the previous iPhone generation as well.

Design

As you can see from the images, this design is colorful and cheerful, so itā€™s aimed at a younger crowd. The cases are designed for iPhone 6/6 Plus, as well as for the newest iPhone generation ā€“ 6s/6s Plus. They are normally priced at $25, but you can currently grab a 50% discount if you order this case from the manufacturerā€™s official website. So without further ado, letā€™s see what are these little Monsters all about.

As can be seen from the images, this is a simple shell-type case. This means that you have to push your iPhone into the case until it properly clicks all around the screen. You do not have to worry if this installation method will harm your phone since the case is made of rubber. If you look at it from the front side, you will see a colorful rubber bumper around the sides. This bumper is slightly raised around the screen, somewhat protecting it. As always, I recommend adding a screen guard in order to protect your phone from all sides. The good news is that you will receive a screen protector and a microfiber cloth to wipe your screen prior to placing the protector on. If you really care about protecting the front side of your screen, my advice is to find a glass screen protector that doesnā€™t actually change the way your phone feels in your hand. Glass screen protectors can also bring a very high level of protection and you can simply remove it in case it gets damaged.

The back side of these case is probably the most interesting thing about this product. There are five color variants to choose from, with each bringing a new Monster persona. There is also a special Halloween edition, colored in orange, as expected. All of the Monsters are nicely designed, and I am sure that a younger crowd will love it. According to the manufacturer, these cases are designed with the help of a brand new 3D IMD technology. Even though I am not sure what this exactly means and what are the benefits of this technology, what I can tell is that the drawings feel 3D-like due to gently shaped extrusions. The raised Monster mouths and details actually create a bit of grip.

Usability

What also feels important to be said is that the SwitchEasy Monsters covers the entire back portion of the phone, including its sides as well, but the will never get too hot. This is a common problem for many shell-type cases, since they donā€™t allow your phone to be properly ventilated, and we all know that our iPhones can get very warm during action-packed gaming sessions.

What also needs to be noted is that the offers full button protection, with SwitchEasyā€™s ā€œNative Touchā€ buttons. Even though this is a small detail, it is highly important one since it affects how the primary buttons are tactile. Thereā€™s not a single problem with the button covers of this case, which remain very tactile. Speaking of ports and cover, all of the ports are wide enough for standard and third-party cables and headphones, so you donā€™t have to worry about this kind of compatibility. The camera cutout is also nicely designed and doesnā€™t present any problems with the flash glare, which is also something that is problematic with many shell-type cases.

SwitchEasy Monsters – Conclusion

All in all, the SwitchEasy Monsters series offers a set of simple shell cases, with several important details done right. Additionally, it provides proper protective coverage, which is the most important factor. I am sure this case is going to be a hit with the younger crowd. For the price of $12.50, you will hardly find a better deal when it comes to simple silicone cases.
